Moaniani - Punahele Andrade

Moaniani mau ʻole a ka Ualanihela
Kahelahela mai uka o Hamakua
O Hamakua lele i Koaʻe kea
A ka muliwai o Waipiʻo
Upu aʻe ka manaʻo
I ke aloha

Kiʻowai maila o Hiʻilawe
E luana i ka noe
Eʻaʻeʻa mai i luna i ka uhiwai
I ka uhiwai, noho i na pali
O ke aloha, e pili mau ai
E lawe mai i ka wehi o Hiʻilawe

He inoa no, no kuʻu ʻāina o Hamakua
E ō mai ʻoe ka lei lehua o ʻia ʻāina
O kēia ʻāina, uluwehi i ka nahele
Me ka Hauʻoki o Mauna Kea
He inoa no, no kuʻu ʻāina o Hamakua

A fragrant soft breeze beckons the never ending rain, Ualanihela.
Spreading over the uplands of Hamakua,
Hamakua where the white tailed Koaʻe soar the cliffs,
To the rivers of Waipiʻo,
I recall
My thoughts of love.

Above is the sacred pool of Hiʻilawe
Where the mists
Greet the cliffs and sit above
*
There they linger together in love
These are the riches brought forth from the waters of Hi'ilawe

I honor Hamakua, land of my birth
Call and answer you, the lei of Lehua of this land
This land rich and abundant is its forests undergrowth
And the strong winter snow rains of Mauna Kea
For I honor Hamakua, my land of birth, Hamakua
