We traveled to Moanalua And saw the beauty of Kamananui Filled with joy of stories told By this fine gentleman of Hawai‘i Along the trail we went The sounds of blowing winds we heard Native birds, introduced birds In the valley of awe, Kamananui. The clouds of Kamawaeluahine open Inviting us. We have seen, we will cherish Our special love to you. Mr. Lorin Gill, Thank you greatly! |
Source: Hailama Farden - This mele commemorates a visit to Kamananui Valley, next to Moanalua. Ida Keli‘i Chun was so impressed by the tour given by Mr. Lorin Gill. She composed this mele, April, 1986, as a mahalo to Mr. Gill (“Lolina Pihapiha” in the last stanza) for his hospitality. Recorded by Ida Keliʻi Chun "Memories of Old Hawai`i" |
