Kakua Pāʻū - Vesting Chant

Kakua pāʻū, ahu nei kikepa
I ka pāʻū noenoe i hoʻokakua ia
Apaʻa i luna o Honokane paʻa i
Mālama a lilo i ka pāʻū
Holo iho la ke ala o na manu i nā pali
Pali ku kahako
Pāʻū pali Kaukini
I ka hoʻonuʻanu ia e ka auana
Akahi ke ana kaluhi i ka pāʻū

Bind on the skirt, fasten the kikepa
The mist colored skirt
That was draped over Honokane
Take care lest you lose your skirt
The flight of the birds lead to the precipices
To the sheer precipices
The precipice Kaukini
Is bedecked by the traveler
At last, the binding of the skirt is done
